Maybe, unless the franchisor demands rent and service fees on sales for the charger. Coupled with the cost of utilities it ends up being a losing proposition.
A complete loser, not only for a local business but for the entire USA. The future will include two groups of foolish people: One, the people who buy and try to drive EVs, and Two, the business owners who install charging stations in their valuable parking spaces expecting to increase sales and profits. (Service stations and truck stops? Yeah, they almost have to have a few chargers.) .
Of course MCD will heap service fees, rent and any other fee it can come up with for these things.
I can see it now: owner/operators will be required to mediate the inevitable disputes between customers when an EV driver pulls in and there is a gas powered SUV in an EV charging spot because the lot is full (hopefully full!). Or when one EV powner wants to blast another EV owner for hogging a charging spot for too long while eat in the dining room.
Historically charging stations at businesses have been in the back, in the least used spaces. The trend now is to put them out front where they are more accessible and possibly visible from the street. So you'll have your front door, then wheelchair-accessible spaces, then a row of charging stations, and then out on the south 40 will be your real parking spaces. .
If Ford is any indication, automakers now find that most buyers want gas or hybrid vehicles and not pure TVs. Tesla will always sell to coastal elites (that don't mind their cars catching on fire or losing steering), but most Americans want more dependable sources of transportation that can be readily fueled with existing infrastructure and that don't need a special parking space to charge while you grab a burger and use the restroom.
