McDonald’s is abusive and a bully. Just wait until Blake has the opportunity to share his side. More than likely, McDonald’s will wrap Blake up in a going away NDA blanket full of threats that prove how abusive McDonald’s can be.
McDonald’s has broken the sacred veil of trust established between Ray Kroc and Blake’s grandfather - Fritz Casper. Shame on McDonald’s and their local Florida henchman - Joe.Chiczewski. Joe has more complaints about his abusive treatment of McDonald’s Licensees than any former/current McDonald’s employee. McDonald’s - please get Joe Chiczewski under control! His frequent outbursts, profanity laced tirades and acts of retribution need to end.
If they can do that to the largest of us, the rest if us have recourse. I stated before, if you wont stand for anything - then you'll fall for everything.
Without teeth and a will to bite back, there can be no cooperative play with corporation. They consistently showed their willingness to steamroll over their franchisees. When will the operator stop being stepped on?
Corporation cant run stores.
McOpCo cant run stores, its why shareholders removed them. The stock has reached its apex... and when it slides, theres nothing left to step in to halt it.
I've seen McDonald's go about this in a few different ways and my guess is that because of his high visibility, business acumen and resources they view him as a threat so rather than bully and push him out they probably made him a ridiculously good package, overpaid for his stores and in exchange it's one less impediment to their clear need to control everything and everyone.
I saw it happen to a two store operator, they paid him 9x cash flow about four years ago when 6x was normal in the area. It was a crazy good offer and he knew exactly what they were doing and why- he was outspoken, extremely intelligent, ran excellent stores, a minority and bulletproof.
If they can't come in the back door they'll come in the front door and everything is for sale. My guess is that Blake is making out extraordinarily well.
Blake and his family have been a tremendous asset to our system and are already missed. McOpCo will ruin the operations, they'll be for sale in a few years with significantly lower sales and cash flow so someone will have the opportunity to gain from their dependable incompetence, impossible demands of their employees and therefore terrible operations.
I can always tell a McOpCo because there are about 1/3 the number of required employees, the manager is constantly off the floor at meetings or doing some sort of administrative duties and the place is a wreck. My father told me years ago that if I ever have a chance to buy a McOpCo to do it because all I'd need to do is put a few more people on the floor and take the money to the bank by the wheelbarrow. Probably a little simplified but largely true.
Like hundreds & thousands of my brothers & sisters I started at MCD over 50 years ago as a crew member
catsup in my veins like most or all of you
my MCD dream has been shattered - I will be selling next year unless I have a nervous breakdown
once GREAT company - is not the MCD I Know
in my years traveling when someone at a pool or golf course ECT asked me what do I for a living I said “I OWN A FEW. MCD’s”. Now I tell them I am an insurance agent
McOpCo - It's unlikely these stores will be run by McOpCo for the long term. Operating company stores has become unpopular in the industry. The large restaurant companies no longer wish to be in the restaurant business. With this number of stores, it might take a while but almost all of them will be refranchised. In fact, the topic may come up in the next quarterly conference call to be held in a few weeks. .
Rent etc, - Someone mentioned that MCD might raise the rent by "two percent" on some stores. It could be much more than that. Bottom line, they can do whatever they want. The entire franchise package can be extinguished and written anew, and probably will be. Of course, if MCD Corp. is renting the land and or building they are stuck with the terms with the real landlord but they can still charge over and above to the Owner/Operator.
This is how they will ultimately get their money back. .
Also - and this is pure speculation - given the dynamics of the Florida real estate market there might be a few stores where operating that property as a McDonald's is just not the highest and best use. If the property is encumbered by a McDonald's franchise there's not much that corporate can do. But, buy the franchise, tear down the McDonald's, and put up a twenty-story office tower and we're talking about real money. That wouldn't work everywhere but Florida appears to have a few boom years ahead. .
The NOA was made for this battle. It was literally founded for times like this. Blake exiting does not change that fact. It would be a disgrace to Blake's legacy if the NOA doesn't stand up and vote NO CONFIDENCE! The time is now for Unity!
It's the lack of teeth, that franchisees are in these predicaments. Franchisee lost partnership status long ago, you're now a McOpCo manager - and MCD believes you're too overpaid.
If operators struggle with a NO CONFIDENCE LETTER when MCD has a knife to its throat. Corporations will not take any of this seriously.
Operators don't lack alignment - they have feckless leadership.
And those in the cue to run for NFLA leadership are prime examples of continued feckless leaders. Some even would sell out their fellow operator under the guise of expansion.
Rats on a sunken ship, so greedy that instead of working together to stay afloat - are more concerned with grabbing the bounty floating in the water.
Not sure they will open like nothing ever happened - I predict at least a 50% turnover in personnel, normally 80-100% of management. Based on operations, they may decline - though doubtful, as most very large organizations don't spend the time now required in their restaurants. Normal, progression of leaving the system is inevitable. However, it was always for MCD betterment that the heritage of McDonald's grew with its legacy operators, 2nd generation that was founded on that same heritage. It is what grew the brand into a worldwide juggernaut.
McDonald's has lost everything that made it great under this disguise of reinvention. The Wheel is a hundred thousand years old - and while you may want to dress it up - your cant make a wheel a square and expect the same delivery.
It doesnt take a Harvard degree to understand that; it may take one to believe differently.

Then do everything you can to get your fellow owners to join the NOA. It currently has 1,000 members out of the approx 1300 USA P-1x owners. There is STRENGTH IN NUMBERS! But EVERYONE must do their part. Join ! If you stand on the sidelines then blame yourself when McD ignores us and nothing changes! And your equity ends up in the toilet.
I am second generation owner. I remember when I was growing up my Dad saying "Son, if Fred Turner makes you a promise, you can take it to the Bank!" Part of why I followed in Dads footsteps.
But today, if my son was interested in McDonalds I would tell him " Son, If Chris K or Joe E makes you a promise, hang on to your wallet and expect a knife in your back"
I will while I am down there to take a road trip to TAMPA - about a hour
I plan on seeing all the GREAT 😊 things MCOPCO did after buying out MR CASPER
FREAKING FAST SERVICE - like JIMMY JOHNS
lightening ⚡️quick curb side
best looking RR in town

this will be like DISNEY WORLD - I am so looking forward to this PS - DISNEY like MCD is not the DISNEY we grew up with

If MCD overpaying by a large margin to buy out the Casper network tell you hoe impactful NOA has been, nothing will.
NOA is a game changer.MCD just proved it with money. Money is the only proof in business that matters.
MCD talks about your partnership and passion for BS things that cost You money and effort that leads to no money, for you. Watch what MCD spends its own money on. That tells you what matters.
Trip to Florida - If your trip won't be for eight months it's doubtful Tampa will be an all-McOpCo market by then. As discussed before, shareholders will frown on permanently expamding the McOpCo base.
Of course, just because they want to sell some stores doesn't mean they'll find buyer(s). .

Grow NOA. Grow your own equity. Watch the reaction to the very MCD critical NOA Owner survey released today. Only an idiot would not join NOA. 55 cents a day is a small price to pay for protection !!
I’m a 15 year operator, I passed on the NOA when it was first created because I couldn’t afford the fees. Now I have no idea how to join, can anyone help?

Really? Those 60 stores will be spun off within 3 months…. Probably be b f l’ed and they will raise the rent 2 percent.

in the next few months - those of you in the Florida area will be watching THE FALL OF ROME 😀
BLAKE’s family built this in 1958 - how long will it take for these stores go to hell
