WWC VS. The Virus

I'm getting questions from reporters about the impact of the Coronavirus on attendance at the WWC.

Any feedback?

I know at least a dozen operators who have cancelled

McDonald’s should be making a decision in the next 2 weeks.

9above) How do you know what/when MCD will do?

On a related point, MCD always portrays WWC as a family friendly event (hence Orlando). What would they do if dozens of kids got sick after the WWC? Poor PR . Will Chris K get the blame?

I too know many Operators in my coop who are cancelling WWC.

What if they held a WWC and NOBODY CAME?

Who is going to be willing to risk their or their families lives to go to WWC where MCD is only going to place more reinvestment demands to destroy our equity while enriching MCD on us? Gosh I hate Chris K! POSTPONE or (better yet) CANCEL it (WWC).

FED just cut interest rates by .5% to help mitigate economic consequences of corona virus.

Oracle just cancelled their west coast manager convention. 20,000 were slated to attend.

Richard Adams said...

Yeah, but that decision was made in December because of "poor street conditions" in San Francisco. They didn't want their conventioneers to have to wade through human waste and used hypodermic needles.

All brought to you by former Mayor Gavin Newson.

WWC should be postponed to April 2021. Hopefully our world will be in a better health environment by then.

Trouble is there will be different people running McD in 2021. Actually that's good news, might be a more interesting event with different players.

The 3rd comment wanted to know how I knew what/when McD would make a decision. That is simple I was at the NFLA meeting and Joe E told us.

The latest up date is, we should know what the decision on the WWC is this Friday.

interesting. Maybe Chris K will actually be gone by our next WW.

Not going, most I know not going, but Field Offices still pushing people to register. Out of touch, or just out of their minds?

I think they are waiting the 2 weeks to see how much Field Offices can deliver on new registrations. I can hear the inticement, coronavirus only impacts the old, are you saying your too old to go to worldwide. Maybe your too old to be an operator too!

Sadly, some operator chuckles, as they dream of picking up those stores.

Chris K won't want to jeopardize his career on this. His Harvard fellows will advise him to postpone. which will probably postpone his firing for awhile.

WWC has been axed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love how CK opened his statement cancelling WWC with “Hello McFamily” and sprinkled “family” and “McFamily” in often. Give me a break.
As if nobody remembers that HE was the one who started all of the “We are no longer a McFamily, we are a McTeam and you can be benched or fired at any point for poor performance. We want the best Operators to thrive, to grow and to lead and if you’re not performing you can and will be benched and/or replaced.” <—that is paraphrased from those stupid regional meetings called in March of 2017 and that’s when the hammers started dropping. That’s when field service began with the predatory garbage grading, that’s when they started taking roll at meetings and that’s when we began being openly treated as unnecessary disposable employees and they began eating their own on the corporate end. Every level on their side became aggressively and arrogantly despotic and every owner operator, regardless of time in the system had made their exit plan. They picked favorites and took out those who in their view weren’t “team players” and on their side it was every man for himself. The most effective terrorists were rewarded with their jobs or promotion and those who helped Owner-Operators were either stuck with no upward mobility or fired. This is entirely on Kempczinski the closest he came to contrition was playing along the edges in a speech or two, he never took personal responsibility for the destruction of our culture that was best characterized in Larry Light’s speech at the last NOA meeting in Dallas. When Chris sent a speech to the system acknowledging the mistakes he never once said “I”...it was “we” and “us”.
I will never trust a man who only acts out of their own self interests and although Chris Kempczinski has changed his words and has altered his tone I can point to no single action that benefited O/O’s. He and therefore they are completely self serving and he singlehandedly destroyed trust that is required for any relationship to thrive. We all make mistakes but when we make them we own them and the only way to make it right is to make consessions that MAKE IT RIGHT. His culture damaged or destroyed many longtime and significant contributors along with those who quietly and effectively own and operate great restaurants, who contribute to their communities and who represent this brand so well where it matters most- every day in their restaurants and communities.
So if Chris reads this and I’m sure he won’t, as long as you’re CEO you can still fix it. You cannot bring back those who were forced out by the culture that you created and frankly some needed to go but you can and should own your own actions, take personal responsibility or at the very least you’re going to have to take action that makes our end of this work much better, total transparency in all financial dealings, if it doesn’t benefit all involved it doesn’t happen and continue your new spirit of valuing what makes McDonald’s what it is- it’s the people. You may very well need to take a short term hit that Wall Street may not like but in the end you’re strong when we are strong and this is unsustainable for many of us because of your decision to look after your interests at our direct expense. Metrics and data is not and will never be all of the story. But you’re going to have to have great people making regional and local decisions and you’re going to have to make sure they’re not playing the old game and you’re going to have to trust them. And us.
I’ll be out in a couple of years and I hope that my kids have it as good as I had it for so many years and we never go back to what I’ve seen in the last five or so.
About Larrys speech, I want to thank the O/O who told me about it. You know who you are- all I’ll say is you were unafraid of speaking out even when it was dangerous and although I couldn’t make the last NOA I’m sure glad you shared it.
Start at about 21:00 https://youtu.be/IrHaYKw-f_sc

As a NOA Rep I can only
Tell you this. The NOA is the ONLY
independent body who supports the owners The corp only serves the stockholders The partnership is dead. Join the NOA or watch you investment equity disappear.

I'll be here in 2022 as I have more debt and less cash flow then I had 3-4 years ago so I will be around for the foreseeable future to pay down the majority of my debt that brings little to no ROI for the cost. I will continue to be looking outside McDonald's to diversify and build a retirement income as my restaurants will have less value in the coming years due to bad lease issues. I started my career with McDonald's as a crew person about 40 years ago working for a franchisee and been O/O for about 20 years. McDonald's at one time was a special franchise but now it is much different and better opportunities out there to build wealth.

Glad they canceled the WWC total waste of money and no real reason I see to go hear top management messages. Everything else nowadays, lobbies, design, equipment replacement in our business is dictated by McDonald's. The entrepreneurs and the spirit they brought to the system has been squashed and if you have any entrepreneurial ideas you would be seen as a rogue operator, your not a team player and if it is truly a good idea for the system it is never now worth the effort to do anything like that now in your restaurants or organization as jumping through the hoops, explanation is not worth the effort anymore.

Hopefully, Chris K will be gone in a couple years but nowadays most these CEO's are the same and McDonald's BOD does not have the courage to ever to hire someone like an Andy Pudzer as he is not politically correct; as for Chris K I don't think he could even handle the job as a supervisor in our system I look at all the talent within McDonald's and out in the business world and this is the best we could do for a global worldwide company? A sad time for the Arches.

Our OA's travel quite a bit. Perhaps we need to ban graded visits for awhile. In order to not spread germs for all over.

And suspend kiosk usage until a cure for this virus is found. Hundreds of people per day touch these screens. It’s only a matter of time until somebody claims that they received the virus via these kiosks.

MCD announced this today WITHOUT WARNING the NFLA ! They have NO RESPECT for operators!!!

McDonald’s has pledged to offer employees of corporate-owned US restaurants two week of pay in the event of a quarantine. The offer makes McDonald’s the latest, and one of the largest, companies to enact relief measures in the wake of growing coronavirus concerns, reports Bloomberg. Hourly wage workers at McDonald’s are seeking similar accommodations. Reuters reports that on Tuesday, workers affiliated with the Fight for $15 and Union groups issued a statement via email requesting paid sick leave for those working at its U.S. restaurants, paid time off for missed shifts due to restaurant closures, standardized training on preventative measures, and modified health and safety protocols to address the growing number of cases in the United States. The Daily Mail writes that McDonald’s UK has already taken preventative steps by enacting a ban on reusable cups, with CNBC also reporting on preventative measures taken by McDonald’s and other companies around the world to allay employee and consumer concerns.

Disgusting how the SEIU sticks their nose into every McDonald's issue.

SEIU demands: standardized training on preventative measures, and modified health and safety protocols"

This exactly describes the problem with unions. The Fight for 15 members already get health and safety training in the system that exceeds public health codes. All QSR chains do this, but the workers NEED TO FOLLOW THE RULES ALREADY IN PLACE! Lazy people need to get less lazy about protecting themselves and our customers, we already protect them with the system we built.

just an fyi... chick fil a is now selling sauces in grocery stores. HOWEVER, 100% of the revenue will go to the local franchisee to spend on employee programs such as scholarships, etc. compare that to our mccafe brand that we fund with opnad dollars and sell for full price in all other establishments.

Also, Dunkin franchisees have ALWAYS split all revenue from sales of all Dunkin branded products sold outside their restaurants with DNKN corporate 50-50 from the beginning. Whats wrong with US???!!!
