I know it's difficult to staff the restaurants but can't imagine letting people skip their
shifts to play politics and potentially harm my business.
But then I hear that McDonald's Corp. is telling Operators to not take action
against employees who skipped work for the protest.
Doesn't that kind of intimidation contradict the idea that McDonald's Corp.
is not a joint-employer?
Company fires 18 employees after they participated in 'A Day Without Immigrants'

Blame the Lawyers and the Libs
Blame our so called leader. What a joke!
Do you mean the lawyers and libs who dominate things in Oak Brook?
I've spent a lot of time with reporters and analysts trying to explain how the joint-employer label just doesn't apply to the McDonald's franchise arrangement. Have I been misleading these people?
No you haven't. The problem is that Operators can't say "NO" to the corporation. If an employee abandons their job to go fishing, shopping, protesting they do not and should not be put back on the schedule. They work for us. We do not work for them. I don't care who they are or what is the issue. MCD has become so "politically Correct" they seem to believe they must support this nonsence or lose customers. If a salried member of management doesn't come in without notice ask them if they want that day charged to their vacation and if not dock their pay. If it is a crew person it is your decision to put them back to work or not and write them up for "no call, no show".
My opinion is that the issue is the Operators. There is nothing that requires our support of political activity. In the past it has been discouraged. MCD, when it comes to social issues have lost their way. This is a business. We sell high quality food for a profit. We treat our employee's well and offer equal opportunity for employment and advancement. An employee's political, religious, ethnic, racial positions are none of our business. They are not allowed to bring it into the stores and we are not required to support them outside their employment. If an employee wants a day off for any reason they can request it from the store manager and the schedule can be adjusted. If the employee is a member of management they can request the day off be charged to their vacation. It is totally iresponsible for the MCD corporation to encourage the operators to interrupt business operations for issues like this. It is stupid. Plus, I think it does weaken their position on the "joint-employer" issue. Who is it in Oak Brook that makes these recommendations?? Does anyone know?
Easterbrook, Chris K et all are far LEFT and leading us to destruction. We need to hire Andy Pudzer !!!!
That's why they hired the contemptible Robert Gibbs, to teach their executives how to be effective liberals. That's also why the McDonald's PAC gives an ever increasing portion of Operator contributions to Democrats. What business person would give money to such a PAC?
Until operators grow a Spine, they will continue to be abused and manipulated. WE have the power, we are too afraid to exercise it! MOOA 2017 !!!!!
I have a strict "No call, no show " means TERMINATION. Try it. IT WORKS
