Just playing Devils advocate here, but could Easterbrook be cleaning up the balance sheet like other top CEOs have done to facilitate a sale of the brand to the highest bidder????
Doubt that - but what you are seeing is McDonald's management imitating what's been happening at Burger King for the past five years. BK Corp.(QSR-NYSE) has been stripped to the bone and Wall Street loves the idea. Activist investors and analysts don't understand or don't care about the responsibilities and obligations a franchise company has to its franchisees.
