Since it does not go into effect until 2016, and is not retroactive, it will take 20 years for all McDonald's California restaurants to be covered by this law. A good start, however.
Due to the failure to apply the law to existing franchises, franchise attorneys may be able to draft new Franchise documents or devise actions for franchisors to take against existing franchisees that get around many of the provisions of this law as franchises are renewed.
In the meantime there is the question of the value of an existing franchise vs. a new one??
